Constitutional Convention

Home > eBulletin > Constitutional Convention

The Constitutional Convention has agreed to discuss how economic, social and cultural rights can be further enhanced through the Irish Constitution.

The development follows work led by Amnesty International and supported by ATD Fourth World Ireland, Atheist Ireland, Children’s Rights Alliance, Community Action Network, Disability Federation Ireland, Focus Ireland, Immigrant Council of Ireland, Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed, National Women’s Council of Ireland, OPEN, Pavee Point and The Wheel.

By putting economic, social and cultural rights into Irish law the Government would be guaranteeing everyone in Ireland a life of dignity, to the extent that our resources allow.  It would mean decisions made by the Government must contribute to the delivery of these rights. This includes a guarantee that every single one of us can access, at the very least, an adequate  standard of living.

To read more about the Convention, visit https://www.constitution.ie/convention.aspx .

You can view Amnesty International’s advertisement on economic, social and cultural rights here.
