The second quarterly report of iReport.ie has been launched, and highlights racism in social media as a significant obstacle. Pavee Point placed a specific report through iReport late last year when inappropriate terms were used to refer to the Traveller community on Twitter. This incident is highlighted on page 16 of the Quarterly Report.
The report highlights that many reports were made about racist language, discrimination in public and harassment. Of the 91 incidents reported, a quarter (25%) involved threat, and a further 5% involved physical assault. Black-African victims represented the largest number of complaints by ethnicity, with Roma representing 11% and Travellers 9%. Pavee Point is currently working to make sure that the many racist situations faced by Travellers and Roma are reported to iReport.
