'Irish Traveller Movement supports Pavee Point in its role in highlighting humanitarian crisis of Roma at M50'
The Irish Traveller Movement (ITM) supports the work recently undertaken of Pavee Point and the Roma Support Group in highlighting the humanitarian crisis faced by the Roma on the M50 roundabout. The ITM was one of the many human rights NGOs that signed a statement calling on statutory agencies to provide urgent humanitarian aid for the families facing horrendous living conditions. The ITM feels that all human rights organisations, including Pavee Point and the Roma Support Group, had a duty to bring the plight of the families to the attention of the wider public and service providers.
The ITM supports the highly professional and accountable work that Pavee Point and the Roma Support Group have done and will continue to do to highlight plight of Travellers and Roma nationally and internationally, by reporting and contributing to European and International expert bodies in their assessments of the living conditions of Travellers and Roma.
The ITM recognizes the role that Pavee Point have played in disseminating the findings from UN and EU reports and by using the evidence from these expert groups in a professional manner to advocate for constructive solutions that will bring about positive change for Travellers and Roma in Ireland and internationally.
The Irish Traveller Movement and Pavee Point have, and will continue, to look towards developing policies and strategies in tandem with State agencies and international bodies that will bring about positive change for Travellers and Roma.
