Young Pavee Voices
This video, which was produced as part of Pavee Point's Youthstart Programme, will be launched at the national conference "Travelling Forward - Community Work and Human Rights for Travellers" taking place in Galway on October 24th and 25th.
The half hour documentary consists of young Travellers reflecting on their own lives in a lively and interesting way. The young people discuss both the positive and negative influences society has on their daily lives and talk about the changes they think should be made.
The issues covered include education, work, family and community life, discrimination and the future. This video is a valuable resource, which could be used to raise awareness and introduce discussion of the issues faced by young Travellers today.
"The reason why I'm proud to be a Traveller is that because all over the things that have happened over the years, between discrimination and all that, we stuck up together, we standed together. I'm proud to be a Traveller. What's so good about being a settled person'... the end of the day we're all human beings!" - Martin Collins, Aged 12.
