............PRESS RELEASE.....7th October 2004............

Traveller representatives from Dunsink Lane meet with City Councillors.

Today at 14.30 Traveller representatives from Dunsink Lane met with City Councillors and representatives from An Garda Siochana to resolve the current crisis which arose when a large barrier was erected by Dublin City Council.

At the meeting no commitment was given from the City Council to remove the barrier which blocks access to Finglas village for over 400 residents of Dunsink Lane.

The council's representative present did not have the authority to make any decision on the matter. Martin Collins, Assistant Director Pavee Point stated, "We have sought a meeting with the Task Force who made the decision to erect the barrier. A senior official in Dublin City Council has said that he will facilitate a meeting with the Task Force (established Nov 2002) which consists of officials from Fingal County Council and Dublin City Council early next week to reach a satisfactory conclusion".

Pavee Point acknowledges that there have been serious incidents which have no place in a civil protest which the organisation strongly condemns. Pavee Point has made every effort to encourage only civil and peaceful protest and are cooperating with the Gardai to ensure that this happens. Travellers will continue to protest at the roundabout connecting the M50 and Navan Road until the barrier is removed.

ENDS.
