............PRESS RELEASE.....12th October 2004............

Pavee Point strongly condemns all forms of anti-social and criminal activity.

Pavee Point strongly condemns the vandalism of Elm Green Golf Course. Assistant Director Martin Collins has consistently condemned any and all forms of anti-social and criminal behaviour. In keeping with this policy we have continually condemned criminal activity during the Dunsink Lane crisis.

I would call on Senator Morrisey to make himself aware of previous statements issued by Pavee Point to clarify any question on our stance on criminal activity. I enclose a portion of yesterday's press release to highlight this point.

"Pavee Point has repeatedly called for calm at the scene of the Dunsink protests and would ask people to refrain from antisocial behaviour and criminal activity. We are suggesting that everyone involved should remain calm and rational, both Travellers and An Garda Siochana.

A number of Traveller and settled youth have engaged in unacceptable activities, notably stone-throwing, which has caused damage to both Traveller and settled vehicles in the area. We call on Traveller and settled youth to refrain from antisocial behaviour. Such activities only serve to delay any solution to the conflict. We are saying to members of the settled youth wishing to support Travellers in their cause it would be more constructive if these people would join the picket line in an orderly manner.

We understand the anger and frustration of residents in the area and are engaged in a number of activities to bring this situation to a speedy and peaceful resolution. Residents and Traveller groups are meeting this afternoon to discuss the situation and to prepare for the 5pm meeting with the Task Force which consists of representatives from Fingal County Council and Dublin City Council."

As a public representative of a political party which has played no positive role in the implementation of a Traveller accommodation strategy Pavee Point calls on Senator Morrisey to publicly condemn official inaction around this urgent issue.

We await his response.
