Roma

Roma constitute the largest minority ethnic group in the EU.  There is estimated to be 10-12 million Roma living in different countries across Europe.

Roma, fleeing segregation and dire living conditions in some Eastern European countries, began to come to Ireland in the 1990s to work and make a better life for their families.   Today there are Roma living in every country in Ireland with many second generation Roma.

In 2018 the first Roma National Needs Assessment was published which highlights the racism and discrimination that Roma face particularly in the areas of accommodation and employment.
