Over the weekend, and in preparation for a September pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago, Pavee Point’s Men’s Health team accompanied a group of Traveller men in drug and alcohol recovery through a demanding four days of training.
The group spent Thursday on the Navan Greenway, completing 18km between Blackwater Park and Nobber Station.
On Friday it was off to Howth for a 16km hike in the sea air along the Howth Cliff Walk.
Saturday brought the group to the Sport Ireland campus for a hard 20km in-and-around Abbotstown.
The final day took the group on an out-and-back from Donabate to Portrane, with a well-deserved dip in the sea to loosen the muscles after a tough few days.
Thanks to all who participated over weekend and well done to all those who completed the 60km+ over the four days – no doubt you’ll have great legs for the Camino!
Also many thanks to John Boland and Get Up Adventures for all the support and guidance among every step of the way.
The group’s pilgrimage in September will coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day, aiming to raise awareness around addiction and mental health for Traveller men, and showing Traveller men that recovery is possible.
