On Thursday (Sept 10) in Brussels, an ERGO Network delegation, including Pavee Point Co-Director Lynsey Kavanagh, met with Roxana Mînzatu, Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness in the European Commission.
Discussions focused on strengthening the implementation and accountability of the EU Roma Strategic Framework, improving equality data for evidence-based policymaking, enforcing measures (budgets, indicators and targets) to combat racism towards Travellers and Roma, and ensuring the explicit inclusion and mainstreaming of Travellers and Roma across all EU social policies and the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
The meeting takes place during Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU which provides a key opportunity to reinforce both Ireland’s and the EU’s commitment to an inclusive union underpinned by human rights, equality and inclusion. We are pleased to see these commitments in the Presidency Programme and Ireland’s commitment to tackle racism and support the implementation of the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy II & the National Action Plan Against Racism.
