On Tuesday (Sept 08) the Pavee Point Education Programme hosted an event on the ‘Second Plan for Implementation and Action 2026–2028’ of the Traveller and Roma Education Strategy (TRES).
The TRES Second Plan was recently published in August, and workshops across the morning focused on identifying priority actions within the plan to promote equity and equality of access, participation, and outcome for Travellers and Roma in education.
Common priorities and recommendations were raised across all workshops: improved communication and engagement with Traveller and Roma families: greater Traveller and Roma representation; stronger cultural awareness and anti-racism measures; improved access to education and training; better coordination between services; and stronger monitoring and accountability.
Participants consistently emphasised the necessity of identifying gaps and ensuring that supports are directed towards those areas.
An upcoming report from the Education Programme will further detail the key recommendations which arose from the workshops.
