Scottish Traveller Storyteller Jess Smith entertained us all with a scary story about a man and his feet at last night’s Culture Night at Pavee Point.
We were delighted to showcase our heritage objects – tent, tin-smithing, beady pockets, flower-making and Roma heritage. It was great to have the chats with visitors – including Travellers who were catching up on their heritage.
We enjoyed short films made about and by Travellers and Roma and also the exhibition ‘The Blackened Circle’ by young Travellers at Oberstown Detention Centre.
The other big hit of the evening was Connecting Cultures – a virtual reality experience of Traveller culture produced by the Cork Traveller Women’s Network. People donned the VR helmets and found themselves in a barrel-top wagon and out in the fields with the horses. They also got a special one-to-one performance from the Traveller singer Rosie McCarthy.
