Tuesday, Oct 13 — Pavee Point was pleased to attend the launch of the successor five-year Government strategy to support the community and voluntary (C&V) sector, launched today by Ministers Dara Calleary, Jerry Buttimer and Marian Harkin.
Developed by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, ‘Ar Scáth a Chéile: Promoting Sustainable, Inclusive and Empowered Communities’ sets out 43 commitments organised around five strategic pillars:
➜ strengthening effective partnerships and participation in policy development at local and national level
➜ resourcing training to enhance C&V sector
➜ promoting sustainable, autonomous, inclusive Community Development through supportive policy
➜ supporting regional and national structures (LCDCs/PPNs) to ensure meaningful C&V sector representation
➜ engaging the community and voluntary sector as a key partner in climate change response
The strategy emphasises the importance of Community Work and the central role it plays in communities across Ireland — and supporting and resourcing the community sector, including Traveller organisations, Women’s projects, Family Resource Centres, Migrant organisations, etc.
Pavee Point strongly supports the strategic priorities of this new strategy and we look forward to working with the Department on shared objectives.
