“I’m so happy to be doing something so productive in these unprecedented times,” says Nora Corcoran, Traveller Community Health Worker in Loughrea, Galway.

“As we are in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been contacting families over the phone to find out how they are coping.  I update them on guidelines and encourage them to only leave their homes when necessary, hand wash, social distance, cocoon and home school.

“As a Traveller Community Health Worker, I constantly let families I contact know that they get in touch with me at any time, with any query, and I will do my best to answer these queries.

If I can’t, I will put them in touch with somebody who can.”

Nora is a Traveller Community Health Worker on Galway Traveller Movement Traveller Primary Health Care Project.

Traveller Primary Community Health Workers are health workers who act as liaison between the Traveller community and health service providers. The All Ireland Traveller Health Study shows 83% of Travellers receive their health information from Traveller Primary Health Care Projects.
