Pavee Point welcomes the setting up of a National Traveller Roma Inclusion Steering Group

The Department of Justice and Equailty have set up a new National Traveller Roma Inclusion Steering Group which is being chaired by Minister Ó Ríordáin.  Pavee Point welcomes this new body, which has committed to revising our National Traveller Roma Integration Strategy, developing a data collection strategy and an assessment of need for the Roma and Traveller community.  The group consists of Traveller and Roma organisational representatives and Departmental representatives.

The group will be responsible for monitoring the situation and impact of policy for Travellers and Roma across areas such as education, health, accommodation, non-discrimination and employment.  This is the first national policy forum that has had Roma representation.  There will be opportunities to feed into a revised National Traveller Roma Inclusion Strategy during 2015.
