On Tuesday (August 26) the Primary Health Care team attended an information session hosted by the Dublin North West Partnership on the rights and entitlements of older persons. The team gathered valuable insights to strengthen their fieldwork and advocacy.
This knowledge is critical, as Traveller ageing has been redefined to begin at 40, reflecting the shorter life expectancy, early onset of chronic illness and structural inequalities affecting Travellers. Supporting this age group is essential as older Travellers are at the heart of the community, serving as keepers of culture, language, tradition and families.
However, significant structural gaps remain. Pavee Point, along with UN, European, and human rights bodies, continue to highlight the urgent need for ethnic equality data across all health collection systems to properly track and address these inequities.
